Poverty & COVID-19 -In the developing world, the poverty the crisis will generate may claim more lives than the disease.

The UN’s Framework for the Immediate Socio-Economic Response to the COVID 19 Crisis warns that “The COVID-19 pandemic is far more than a health crisis: it is affecting societies and economies at their core. While the impact of the pandemic will vary from country to country, it will most likely increase poverty and inequalities at a global scale, making achievement of SDGs even more urgent.

Mauritian seem embracing the Covid-19 with surprises as the negative effect on foodstuffs and medicines rocket prices from even few days before announcing official sanitary measures.

UNAMAURITIUS and its affiliates set up structures to provide basic foodstuffs, baby stuffs, medicine and other social and humanitarian assistance around the Islands. It was a true and genuine chains of Civil Societies mobilizing all means available to provide humanitarian supports to the needy around Mauritius.
