WORLD FOOD DAY 2022 – 77TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED NATIONS, MARKED BY THE UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION OF MAURITIUS WITH THE COLLABORATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF PORT-LOUIS.
Award Ceremony for the winners of (1) Schools Mural Painting on UNSDGS (2019/20) and Students Thesis writing 2022 on FOOD SECURITY

(UNAMAURITIUS proposed to the Government of Mauritius to consider the possibility of declaring a Day of Memorial for the victims of COVID-19 in Mauritius with a monument. We also urge the government representatives to bring our request to the attention of relevant bodies at the United Nations to declares an International Day of Memorial towards the victims of Covid-19 in the world).
The United Nations Association of Mauritius marked the World Food Day22 and the 77th anniversary of the UNITED NATIONS was held on 22nd Oct 2022. H.E Mr. Prithiviragsingh ROOPUN, President of the Republic of Mauritius graced the function as Chief Guest.
Mr. Nundkeswarsing BOSSOONDYAL as Master of Ceremony, and Chairperson of the Organizing Committee and CEO of UNAMAURITIUS did the welcome address.
Hon. Alan GANOO, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and
International Trade was at last minutes represented by Hon. Ms Teenah JUTTON, MP and Private Parliamentary Secretary and delivered a speech on behalf of the Minister. His Lordship, Mr. Mahfooz Moussa CADERSAIB, Lord Mayor of the City of Port-Louis and Dr. Dinesh Kumar HURREERAM, Director General of University of Technology–Mauritius (UTM) were both delivered an impressive speech. All above four personalities had in their addresses stressed out on the matter related on Food Security, UNSDGS and the role of the United Nations since its launched-on 22nd October 1945.
Mr. Ashween RAMESSUR, head of the A Serve Unity CSR body of the Atalian Interactive Ltd had also presented a speech underlying the key role of his company in promoting UNSDGS.
United Nations Secretary General message marking the World Food Day 2022 was read by Ms. Shaistah Liyah IMAMBACCUS, Secretary for UNSDGs programme at UNAMAURITIUS.
Mr. ANTONIO GUTERRES, Secretary General of the UNITED NATIONS message marking the 77th anniversary of the UNITED NATIONS was read by Mr. Mahess ROOPUN, Secretary General of the United Nations Association of Mauritius.
At the end of the function, the MC made a solemn request to the PPS Ms Teena Jutton who represented the Minister of Foreign Affairs Regional Integration, and
International Trade as the Government representative to consider establishing a national Memorial Day in Mauritius marking COVID-19 and to voice our request at the UN to declare an International Day of Memorial for all victims falling around the world due to Covid-19.
Ms Nitusa Padmini GOOKOOL, Vice President of the UNAMAURITIUS presented the vote of THANKS.
The Award Ceremonies on the following two competitions were done:
1. Schools Mural Painting Competition on UNSDGS at 12 Secondary Schools in 2019/20. Award function could not take place due to COVID-19 and sanitary measures imposed in Mauritius.
2. University of Technology of Mauritius – Programs on Community Learning and Engagement-CLEn22 with 49 participants.
Professor Mahboob Sooltan SOHAWON carried a critics remark as three Jury members on the Thesis of FOOD SECURITY.
Cash Prizes, Trophies, Certificates of Participations and Shields were handed over to the participants by H.E the President of the Republic, Hon. PPS represented the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Lord Mayor of the City of Port-Louis, the Director General of UTM, the Head of a Serve Unity CSR grp of Atalian, Vice President of MACOSS and Ambassador Ravi SOOKUN.
